Looking through my archive tonight, I came across this image of a duck, nothing special about the duck but the light on the water creates an almost painted effect (with a little help from shutter speed and panning).
The current theme on The Digital Lightroom is “Capture the Light” and this is an image I might consider submitting (if I was not a judge that is). Why not take a look at the competition and give some thought to how you might Capture the Light. There are more examples of the use of natural light in images over on The Digital Lightroom blog to inspire and encourage entries.
The competition does not close until 7 March so plenty of time to plan, capture and submit your entries. I am looking forward to seeing some great natural light images. Good luck!

The following image was taken exactly 12 months ago but is very on-topic for todays post. The colours of autumn are just coming into view and the the composition uses the canal as a lead in line to the image. “Lead in lines” was the theme of the last competition we ran over at The Digital Lightroom and “Shades of Autumn” is the current theme.
The competition is open until 14 December so plenty of time to get out and capture Autumn in an image. Further details of how to enter the competition can be found at The Digital Lightroom.
