Which path to take
This image was taken in the grounds of a French Chateau, and used as part of a module submission on a photography course. Objective – lead in lines.
Not sure which version I prefer.

I love the colours in the trees Adrian but on balance, I think I prefer the black and white or do I.. This is a tough one, like you, I can’t decide. A very nice image in colour and black and white. 🙂
Thanks Chillbrook, it is difficult to choose, but at the moment I am favouring the colour version, as it has more depth (at least I think I am).
BTW – placed my vote for your picture on Nikon UK last night, GOOD LUCK. Also entered the next competition myself.
Thank you very much Adrian and good luck next month.
For me, if the story is the path, then its the black and white. The trees, with their dramatic foliage – especially the copper beech and the spruce – seem to grab my attention in the colour version. 🙂
Good point. I am favouring the colour version so perhaps as an overall image it has the edge.
Thanks
Adrian
It’s marvellous planting 🙂
At first I would have said the first one, it’s easy to look at, the path draws my eyes in and they end up resting on the colours of the trees, but I’m pulled back to the second one as I’m pulled in by the darkness underneath the trees and I find myself peering to see what is in the light beyond the trees to the left so I think it’s the second one for me. 🙂
Thanks Sallyann. I think you have identified the key difference in these images – the ease of viewing. I too am drawn to the colour version, perhaps because its easier to look at compared to the mono version. The key therefore is not to post colour and mono versions of the same image together 😦
Question : How do you go from one post to the next on this new design of yours, I’m probably missing something, but I can’t find the link to go back and fore between posts. ?
This is frustrating. You are not the first to comment, so I contacted WP support and their response was “You can’t add next/previous links to this theme” but they added it was a good idea and they will look into it.
I like the rest of the theme, and have invested cash in purchasing it, so for now will stick with it.
So, to find all posts you need to go back to the page “Blog” and scroll down to find the next one to look at.
Thanks for looking and commenting.
I don’t think that this is a strong picture in mono – for a start, for example, the lawns are not too far off the tones and textures of the path.
To me, the colour version is better. The lawns and path are clearly separated, and its easier to see the bright path leading the eye right into the back of the composition.
But what really makes it I think are those beautiful blues of the foliage above the path, the purples to the left, and the variegated greens to the right – these colours bring this picture up to a higher level. If all of these trees had ordinary green foliage, the choice would be a tighter thing. Adrian
Thanks Adrian. It’s the ease of viewing theme that came out earlier in the comments. The mono isn’t as strongly defined and therefore makes the viewer work harder to interpret it.
Yes, I think that’s very true. A
There are so many shades of green that I prefer the colour version … hmmm … yup, the colour.
It seems to be the popular choice Lynne.
