I need your opinion….
My recent post More Stones raised some interesting comments on composition. Thought I would try the Poll feature on wp to canvass opinion.

I’m not voting, because it’s 1/2 and 1/2! :O It is a lot, but maybe if the shadows were lightened a little it would look different 🙂
Okay – you have the right to abstain. 🙂
I’m not a photographer so to speak, so when I look at a photograph I have a more simplistic viewpoint. My thoughts are that the stones draw you into the picture toward the space between the hills and up to the sky. So I don’t think they compete, but compliment each other. 🙂
Thanks – my view too!
Hooray! Maybe I would be able to pass a photography class after all!
It’s a beautiful photograph by the way.
Thanks Elisa – take that class you’ll pass!
Agree “elisaruland”s comment… 😉
I’m not real a photographer myself, more a “photo looking man”… 😉
You are not getting a smiley face from me. I do think they compete but I don’t think that is a problem, per se. Don’t the Scots throw big stones for sport? Can you find one to throw those out of the picture and then we’ll know for sure?
Mike you’re thinking of tossing the caber (a big big log) so similar I suppose. Don’t you have big grizzly lumberjacks in your part of the world?
(PS Try putting “tossing” into your Anglo – US slang translator).
It’s actually some Scandinavian culture that does the tossing of stones. As I recall it something like oonce spoonce stones. Wacker.
You have an extensive, detailed and totally useless knowledge of Scandinavian culture and sports Mike!
Finally, someone says something nice to me. I DO like the way Swedish women look.
Adrian,
For what it is worth – anyone who tells you this image has got a problem – tell them to ‘sod off’ rules are as they say ‘for the guidance of intellectuals & leadership of fools’ its your interpretation….
Actually I like it a lot. Apart from the blown High-lights 🙂
David.
I voted for it been fine, i don’t see much difference in composition from the Mount Williamson—Clearing Storm, photograph by Ansel Adams, 1944. That shot had a very strong foreground, but equally strong sky and background. If it worked for the great master then it should work for everyone. If it comes down to a rules thing then rules are there to be bent and broken. The imprtant thing is DO YOU LIKE IT?
Thanks Russ, I don’t have any issues with the composition, if had I wouldn’t have posted it.
Like being compared to AA. Agree rules are to be bent and broken.
Cheers.
Adrian
